Malherbes parakeet

Malherbe’s or “Orange-Fronted Parakeet”

This beautiful little bird lives in only three valleys of New Zealand. In the 19th century it was found in abundance in New Zealand but introduced predators such as rats and stoats (a small member of the weasel family) have reduced its numbers to roughly 200 remaining individuals.
